How are the home page and internal pages structured?
Home page
Apart from the header
and footer, the home page consists of three columns:
- Navigation
column (on the home page, already contains the subitems in the Statistics sector)
- Information section (where
we inform you about news and new publications)
- Quick access
column with three sections:
- A search option
- Quick infos with links to the detail pages
- Quick links to topics that might otherwise be difficult to find.
The A-Z INDEX is always found at the start of the navigation column.
It gives you an alternative search option with many hundred terms and
takes you straight to the relevant page.
Internal pages
With the exception of
special cases, the internal pages consist of two columns:
- Navigation
column (at the top of this column you are given the option to
return to previous pages, which are displayed in hierarchical form)
- Information section. You
can also perform a search in the top right corner of the information
section. In some sectors, the search box has been expanded into an info
box that provides you with all the additional information available
on the current topic.
The date when the page was last updated can be
found at the very bottom of most pages. Please note that this date relates
not only to changes in the visible text, but also to changes in the
downloads that are listed.

How can I find what I’m looking
for?
To search statistik.at, there is
a search box in the top right corner below the navigation menu on virtually
every page.
- Enter the required search text (one or more terms,
at least 3 characters) in the box on the right under Search.
- Click on the standard search symbol.
Standard search
The standard search on statistik.at
is a full text search, in other words a search is performed for content
in the following categories that contains the search term(s) in the
text:
- Index: The manually maintained index assigns the relevant web
page to terms.
- Web
pages
- Tables on specific statistical topics
- Diagrams on specific statistical topics, with indexed labelling
- Thematic maps,
also with indexed labelling
- Further information on specific statistical topics: other PDFs
on the topic
- Press releases
- Publications: standard publications, summary reports and the
Statistical Yearbook.
The
following rules apply:
- The search does not differentiate between upper
and lower case, and also searches for partial strings.
A search for “port” would therefore also return airport, Portugal and sportswear.
- Most special characters (. , - * + ^ „ “ ‚
’) in the search text are ignored.
- The German character ß is equated with ss in the
search.
The list of search results is displayed
in the middle of the content area, with the first 10 hits for each category
being displayed. If categories have more than 10 hits, search results
are displayed in groups of 10.
The search results list is subdivided into the above groups, with
results for each group – if available – being sorted alphabetically.
Only press releases are sorted chronologically.
In addition to the standard search,
an advanced search is available which includes additional functions
enabling the search to be refined or the search results limited.
Advanced search
In the advanced search,
the following input or selection options are also available:
- Search text
- Selection of the type of data to be searched (web pages, tables, diagrams,
thematic maps, further information, press releases, publications, standard
documentation)
- Search only in title
- Only search for whole words (if this option is selected, a search
for “port” would not return airport, Portugal or sportswear)
- Search in a particular topic (you can select a topic from the first
sublevel of the statistics sector)
- Date of publication (from, to)
These additional options allow a
very precise search to be performed.
Notes:
- If you are not satisfied with the results (because you have too many
search results, for example), you should use the advanced search options.
- In large PDF documents, it is often difficult to find the search term
again. In this case, use Acrobat Reader’s integrated search option.
