2021 vegetable harvest

According to Statistics Austria the vegetable production 2021 increased by 5% to 675 000 tons compared to 2020. This was also clearly above the five years average level (+11%).

Compared to 2020, the harvest of root, tuber and bulb vegetables including pulses increased by 6% to 357 900 tons. Due to good weather conditions, onions, the main vegetable product of Austria, reached 168 700 tons (+9% to 2020), which was 14% over the five years average. Carrots yielded 117 500 tons and thus remained stable compared to 2020 (+1%). The production of leafy and stalked vegetables - including brassicas - increased by 2% to 147 500 tons and therefore overruled the five years average by 8%. The main products were salads with 51 300 tons (+4% to 2020) and cabbage with 41 200 tons (+4% to 2020). The harvest of vegetables cultivated for fruit increased by 4% and brought a harvest of 169 600, which was 6% more than the five years average.
