Live birth 2020: 30.1% were caesareans; 7.0% born preterm

Vienna, 2021-07-08 – In 2020, the number of live births in Austria was 82 950, as Statistics Austria reports. The average weight of a new-born girl was 3 266 g, the average length 50.3 cm. New-born boys were a bit heavier with 3 395 g and taller with 51.0 cm. The mode of delivery was spontaneous in 62.4 % of all live births, 13.6 % were emergency C-sections, and 16.6 % elective caesareans. 7.0% of the babies were born preterm.
