COICOP – Main headings and details
The goods and services of the consumer basket are classified according to COICOP/HICP (COICOP=Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose). COICOP is a classification applied internationally and subdividing consumption by households into twelve main groupings and further sub-aggregates hierarchically classified according to purpose. A current version of the COICOP/HICP classification can be found on the Ramon server provided by Eurostat.
A frequently used COICOP sub-category is 4.5 “Electricity, gas and other solid fuels”. Individual items relating to “Energy” are included under special aggregates.
