The quota for the best equipped dwellings (with bathroom or shower cabinet, WC and central heating) in 2011 was 92.0% compared to 91.4% in 2010 and just 86.4% in 2001. 2011 and 2010 under 2% of all main residences were substandard dwellings (without indoor WC). Ten years ago, (2001) this share was about 3.2%. In Vienna the contingent of these substandard dwellings was significantly above the average for whole Austria (2011: 4.6%; 2001: 8.7%).
The shares of dwellings classified by tenure fluctuate only in the range of tenths of percentage points: the quota for dwellings inhabited by house owners accounts for two-fifths (39.3%) in 2011 and 2010; owner-occupied freehold dwellings (in multiple-storey residential buildings) were just under 11%; rented dwellings also had nearly identical percentages in both years (40.0%; 39.9%).
