Social statistics
The social statistics area comprises a variety of different statistics
on the social situation in Austria.
- Firstly, the
distribution of personal income is presented. The “annual personal income” section shows the gross and net annual
income of employees and pensioners based on wage tax data (1997–2008
time series and also by age group and federal province). The General Income report contains comprehensive information on the income
of employees and self-employed persons as well as on the income of pensioners.
With respect to earnings, gross hourly, monthly and annual earnings are available
based on the Structure of Earnings Survey.
- The index
of agreed minimum wages 06
measures minimum wage trends in Austria and is an important assessment
criterion for wage and salary negotiations.
- Household income and statistics on poverty
and social inclusion are shown based on the EU-SILC survey (SILC = Statistics
on Income and Living Conditions).
- Data on labour costs
includes results from the Labour Cost Survey, information from the annual
labour cost statistics and quarterly results of the labour cost index.
- Consumption expenditures are based on the Household Budget
Survey of private households conducted every five years.
- With respect
to gender statistics,
gender-specific data is specially processed.
- A time
use survey can be used to show how
much time different social groups spend on different activities per
day (during the week and at the weekend).
- Data on social protection
presents the following information: social protection according to EU
concept (social expenditure-to-GDP ratio, social expenditure, financing
of social expenditure and pension beneficiaries) and social benefits
at federal level (unemployment benefits, federal long-term care allowance,
family benefits, pensions).
- With regard
to criminality,
we provide information on recorded crimes based on police criminal statistics
and information on convictions based on judicial criminal statistics.
