2010/11 Austria offers 1.09 million beds for tourists; trend towards increase of bed capacity

According to an annual survey of tourism capacity from November 2010 until October 2011 around 1.09 million bed places in 65.200 accommodation establishments were listed.

This denotes a widely constant bed supply (+0.3%). On the contrary the capacity of accommodation establishments declined by 1.4%.

Tyrol (23.700 respectively 348.000) and Salzburg (11.600 respectively 208.400) which listed the most nights spent by tourists, offered around half of all accommodation establishments and bed capacity.

In contrast to commercial accommodations, where the bed capacity rose by 1.1%, bed places in private accommodations declined by -1.8%.

The bed occupancy rates during the winter season 2010/11 remained more or less stable (-0.3 percentage points; 33.9%), the one from the summer season 2011 increased slightly (+0.7 percentage points; 31.0%).
