Travel balance of payments

Up to and including December 2005 the Data for international payment flows (available in German only) in tourist travel was collected and published by the Austrian National Bank. Since 1 January 2006 Statistics Austria has been responsible for this task on behalf of the Austrian National Bank.

The travel balance of payments compares the expenditure of Austrian residents for travel abroad and the income from incoming tourism (excluding international passenger transport).

For calendar year 2010 the currency net inflow (difference between income and spending) from tourism was approx. €6.3 billion, an increase by €200 million compared to 2009. In total the income from incoming tourism was €14.1 billion, i.e. +1.1% compared to 2009. Spendings by Austrian residents abroad slightly held steady at €7.7 billion.
