Mobility and speed visibly define our lives, ensure personal freedom and provide access to occupational and recreational services. From society’s point of view, an efficient traffic system is a significant driving force behind national economies, and the traffic sector is thus of major economic importance.

Substantiated statistical data relating to roads, railways, aviation and inland waterways as modes of transport constitutes an important basis for traffic policy and entrepreneurial decisions and is collected by Statistics Austria and made available to the public, as is statistical information concerning the network of gas and oil pipelines.
