Registrations of used motor vehicles 2011

The number of registrations of used motor vehicles 2011 increased by 1.0% to 977 809 units. Passenger cars showed an increase of 0.5% to 802 458 vehicles (2010: +3.2%). Passenger cars powered by petrol (incl. flex-fuel (E85); -0.9%) decreased whereas those with a diesel drive recorded increases of 1.5%. Used commercial vehicles documented decreases for lorries (-1.4%) as well as articulated lorries (-16.8%). Tractors used for agriculture and forestry (tractors and two-axle mowers; +4.9%) reported positive results. Used lightweight motorcycles, scooters and motorcycles showed increases (+9.4%, +4.8% and +4.5%).

Comparing the TOP 10 makes of used passenger cars VW was on top with a total of 163 391 registrations and a share of about one-fifth (20.4%). Makes like BMW (incl. MINI; +4.0%), Audi (+2.8%), Peugeot (+1.9%), Opel (+1.5%) and Mercedes (incl. Smart and Maybach; +0.8%) increased whereas Fiat (incl. Abarth; -4.7%), Mazda (-4.2%), Renault (incl. Dacia; -2.5%), Ford (-1.5%) and VW (-0.2%) showed decreases.

Compared to 2010, in the months February (+14.0%), January (+9.5%), May (+9.2%), December (+5.3%), September (+1.6%) and October (+1.0%) more used passenger cars were registered, while in June (-8.9%), July (-6.5%), April (-5.7%), March (-2.3%), August (-1.8%) and November (-1.4%) the registrations decreased.
