Education

This section provides results about the formal level of education as well as information about the current school attendance. As stated in the Register-based Census Act, the according attributes have to be collected from the Register of Enrolled Pupils & Students and the Register of Educational Attainment.

Level of education

The level of education of the population relates to the highest level of education completed. The Register of Educational Attainment, which is maintained by Statistics Austria, provides the source of the data needed. It comprises information about all formal educational attainments in Austria. Data from the Census 2001 was used for the initial development of this register, and it is updated annually with related data from Austrian schools, the Federal Economic Chamber, the Chamber of Agriculture and the Federal Ministry of Health. Furthermore, the Unemployment Register provides data about the highest level of education of benefit recipients every year. Educational systems vary between countries and are not easily matchable. To ensure international comparability, the highest level of education completed is reported with 2 classifications (national classification and ISCED).
